Russell Westbrook, the Oklahoma City Thunder's star point guard and second-best player, will have surgery on a torn meniscus in his right knee and is out indefinitely, the team announced Friday.
With the chance that OKC will be without Westbrook for the rest of the NBA playoffs, it's a devastating blow for a team that began the postseason as Western Conference co-favorites with the San Antonio Spurs.
The Thunder currently lead their first-round series against the Houston Rockets 2-0.
Westbrook, 24, averaged 23.2 points, 7.4 assists and 5.4 rebonds in the regular season.
It appeared Westbrook injured the knee in a collision with Patrick Beverley.
