Who knew we all loved fast cars that much? Fast & Furious 6, the latest entry in the super-speed action series, earned an estimated $98,528,000 for the three-day weekend. It may be on track for a four-day opening gross north of $120 million. This beats the opening of Fast 5 ($86 million), though it’s roughly the same margin of growth if you don’t count the holiday. (Fast & Furious opened with $70 million.)
The Hangover Part III has earned an estimated $54,204,000 since opening on Thursday ($42,415,000 for the weekend) for a projected five-day gross somewhere north of $60 million — in-between Parts I and II and actually below the opening gross of the first film, excluding the late Wednesday and Thursday numbers. Meanwhile, Epic is doing slightly better than expected, with an estimated $34,200,000 and a potential $40+ million four-day opening. The film, produced for a relatively slim $93 million, should hold up until Monsters University opens at the end of June.
Finishing out the list are holdovers Star Trek Into Darkness and Iron Man 3. The former fell an estimated 45.8 percent for $38 million — a tick steeper than the previous Star Trek — while Iron Man 3 fell by 45.7 percent for an estimated $19,424,000 and a potential four-day gross in the mid-20s.
