Fire Burns Eminem’s Childhood Home In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A fire has burned the childhood home of rapper Eminem in Detroit.

Crews responded Thursday evening to the boarded-up bungalow on Dresden Street near East State Fair, just south of 8 Mile Road

The blaze damaged portions of the small home’s top floor, although a cause of the fire wasn’t immediately known.

The home is pictured on the cover of Eminem’s

just-released “The Marshall Mathers LP 2,” and was also on the musician’s 2000 album “The Marshall Mathers LP.”

Public records show the home was listed as the address of Eminem’s mother, Deborah Mathers, starting in the 1980s. The property has had several owners since Eminem lived there and has been in foreclosure at least twice in past decade.

The home was listed earlier this year for online auction by the state. A past owner tried to sell it on eBay for $500,000 but received no bids. After the house failed to sell for a mere $500 at a Wayne County Treasurer’s Office auction, it was turned over to the Michigan Land Bank.
