Norman Reedus’ Son Refused To Audition For ‘Spider-Man’ Because He Didn’t Want To ‘Ruin His Life’

VIA: Many of you may know that Norman Reedus has an adorable kid with his ex, former supermodel Helena Christensen. His son also has the unusual but cool name, Mingus Reedus (who I assume is named after jazz musician Charles Mingus). What some of you may not know, however, is that Mingus is also in demand in Hollywood. Yet, as many roles as he’s offered, Mingus remains uninterested. That extends even to the biggest part for a 15-year-old in all of Hollywood right now, the lead in Sony’s upcoming Spider-Man movie, as Norman Reedus told the Philippine Daily Inquirer:

“We got this call because they are going to make a new ‘Spider-Man,’ and he’s like 14 or 15. They asked, ‘Would Mingus want to audition for ‘Spider-Man?’ He’s had a couple of these calls, and he always said no to all of them.”

However, Mingus didn’t decline Spider-Man out of disrespect for the character. It turns out, Mingus Reedus simply has no desire whatsoever to become an actor, said Norman.

I asked him, Do you want to audition?’ He asked, ‘What part?’ I said, ‘I think you’d be Spider-Man.’ He said, ‘No, I don’t want to ruin my life.’ I went, ‘What do you mean?’ He said, ‘I don’t want to be famous.’

That’s a good kid with a “good head on his shoulders,” as Norman said. I’m sure that Mingus has noticed the toll it’s taken on his father, who recently moved because — so the rumors suggest — The Walking Dead fans had found his house and began following him there. What teenager needs that in his life?
