Empire’ Is Entering ‘Walking Dead’ Territory As Its Huge Ratings Rise Once Again

Uproxx: Last night’s Empire saw a corporate-level brawl break out between Empire Enterprises and Billy Beretti’s rival label while the war within the Lyon family “home” came to a head on multiple fronts. The execution was, as always, a little over the top, but highly enjoyable. Empire is a soap opera at its heart, but it also has better writing and a more dramatic heft. The show is a guilty pleasure that you really don’t have to feel that guilty about because everyone is doing it.

Last night’s episode grabbed a 5.7 rating in the 18-49 demo and more than 14 million viewers. Empire‘s 5.4 demo number was the highest on broadcast television last week, and the higher number this week will surely lead to another win. At this point, the word “juggernaut” is rightly being tossed around, and its demo rating and especially its total viewer headcount are starting to inch into Walking Dead territory. Can Empire overtake AMC’s survival drama? We’ll see, but after eight straight weeks of gains, it seems like the only thing that can slow down Empire is its quickly approaching summer hiatus.
